Today was a beautiful and meaningful day in our kindergarten class as we celebrated Earth Day together!
We began with a classroom activity where students shared thoughtful ideas about how they can help care for the Earth. From turning off lights to recycling and protecting nature, their ideas showed just how much they understand the importance of looking after our world. Students also painted beautiful pictures of the Earth, expressing their creativity and love for our planet.
After our classroom learning, our kindergarten students teamed up with the Grade 5 class for a special garbage clean-up around the school. With gloves on and bags in hand, students worked together to collect litter and help keep our school environment clean. It was wonderful to see our youngest learners collaborating with older students, building connections and showing responsibility.
It was a joyful day spent outdoors, learning, working together, and taking action. We are so proud of our kindergarten students for showing care, teamwork, and respect for the environment.

Celebrating Kindergarten Day: Big Hearts, Bright Minds, Little Learners
Today, we celebrate something truly special—Kindergarten Day! A day filled with laughter, curiosity, and the joyful energy that only young learners can bring.
Kindergarten is more than just the start of school—it’s where confidence begins to grow, friendships start to bloom, and little voices begin to discover their strength. Each day in our classroom is an adventure. From building towers and exploring numbers to learning new words and sharing stories, our students are constantly discovering the world around them.
What makes kindergarten so magical is the way children learn through play, imagination, and wonder. A simple question can turn into a big discovery. A small act of kindness can turn into a lifelong lesson. Whether it’s helping a friend, trying something new, or proudly writing their name, every moment is a milestone worth celebrating.
Today, we honour the uniqueness of every child—their creativity, their courage, and their endless potential. We celebrate the giggles during circle time, the focus during hands-on activities, and the excitement of learning something new for the very first time.

Understanding the Meaning of Easter in Our Classroom
As we celebrate Easter in our kindergarten classroom, we recognize that this special time can hold different meanings for different families.
For families who observe Easter as a religious celebration, it is a time to remember the story of Jesus and the message of love, sacrifice, and hope. It marks a joyful moment of new life and reminds them that light and goodness can overcome difficult times. Many families may attend church, pray together, and reflect on these important values.
For others, it is a time to gather with family, enjoy traditions, and welcome the arrival of spring. In our class, we embrace these diverse perspectives by focusing on shared values like kindness, renewal, and togetherness.
Through stories, conversations, and activities, students are learning to appreciate and respect each other’s traditions. This helps us build a caring and inclusive classroom where everyone feels seen and valued.

We had a wonderful time celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in our Kindergarten classroom! This special day honours Saint Patrick, who is remembered for bringing Christianity to Ireland.
We learned that the colour green is important because it represents Ireland, also known as the “Emerald Isle,” and the green shamrock that Saint Patrick used as a symbol.
Students enjoyed fun activities, exploring the colour green, and sharing in the excitement of the day.
This month we are learning about Greek Heritage Month. Canada is home to many cultures, and we enjoy learning about the traditions that make our community special.
The theme for this year’s Greek Heritage Month is “Celebrating Identities: From Alpha to Omega.” This theme reminds us that every person’s identity and culture are important and should be celebrated.
We discovered that Greece is a beautiful country with a rich history, delicious food, and wonderful traditions. We also learned how to say “hello” in Greek – Yia sas! (Γεια σας).
In our classroom, we talked about how learning about different cultures helps us understand and respect one another. It is exciting to explore the many cultures that make up our school community!
Our class has been learning about non-standard measurement. This means we measure things using objects instead of rulers. We used different items like cubes and classroom materials to measure objects around our room.
We also learned that measurement has rules. When we measure, we need to:
Start at the edge of the object
Place the items in a straight line
Make sure there are no gaps between the items
The students had so much fun exploring the classroom and discovering how long and tall different things are. We are becoming great little mathematicians and problem-solvers!

The Toronto District School Board’s theme for this year’s Black History Month is The Power of Us. In kindergarten, this month, we focused on helping students celebrate who they are and build belief in themselves.
We encouraged children to share what they love about themselves and talked about having a positive self-image. Students proudly spoke about their hair, their smiles, their families, their cultures, and the special things that make them unique.
As part of our learning, students drew pictures of themselves and shared what they liked about who they are. These moments helped reinforce confidence, self-love, and pride in their identity.
Our students are learning that they are important, capable, and valued. When children believe in themselves, they shine brightly.
This month — and every month — we celebrate confidence, courage, and the beautiful uniqueness of every child in our classroom.
For Valentine’s Day, our kindergarten classroom was filled with love, laughter, and creativity.
Our students created beautiful heart-shaped art pieces to celebrate the love they have for their families. As they worked, they eagerly shared stories about their moms, dads, siblings, grandparents, and even special pets. It was such a joy to hear them describe what makes their families special — from bedtime hugs to fun in the park and everything in between.
Each heart was uniquely designed to represent their special family. Through this activity, our students were not only exploring perception and use of space and artistic expression, but also reflecting on gratitude, belonging, and the importance of family.
We are so proud of the love our kindergarteners carry in their hearts. Their artwork is a beautiful reminder that even the smallest hands can express the biggest love.
This month in Kindergarten, we are excited to celebrate Chinese Heritage Month! It is a special time to learn about the rich history, beautiful traditions, and vibrant culture of Chinese communities in Canada and around the world.
Our students learned that fireworks are an important part of Lunar New Year celebrations, symbolizing joy and new beginnings. To connect with this tradition, we created our own colourful fireworks using paint! With bright bursts of red, gold, and many other vibrant colours, our classroom artwork sparkled with creativity and excitement.
We also learned a friendly greeting in Mandarin: “Nǐ hǎo!” (Hello!) and talked about how celebrations around the world can bring families and communities together.
It has been a joyful time of learning, creativity, and appreciation for the many cultures that make our community so special.
Pongal
(January 14 - 17, 2026)
In January, we learned about Pongal, a special harvest festival celebrated mainly by people in South India, especially the Tamil community. Pongal is a time to say thank you to the sun, the farmers, the animals, and nature for helping food grow.
For children, Pongal is about learning gratitude, sharing joy, and understanding how food comes from the earth to our tables. We talked about kindness, teamwork, and being thankful for the good things in our lives. Our classroom was filled with curiosity, smiles, and celebration as we learned about this beautiful tradition together.
