Celebrating Kindergarten Day: Big Hearts, Bright Minds, Little Learners
Today, we celebrate something truly special—Kindergarten Day! A day filled with laughter, curiosity, and the joyful energy that only young learners can bring.
Kindergarten is more than just the start of school—it’s where confidence begins to grow, friendships start to bloom, and little voices begin to discover their strength. Each day in our classroom is an adventure. From building towers and exploring numbers to learning new words and sharing stories, our students are constantly discovering the world around them.
What makes kindergarten so magical is the way children learn through play, imagination, and wonder. A simple question can turn into a big discovery. A small act of kindness can turn into a lifelong lesson. Whether it’s helping a friend, trying something new, or proudly writing their name, every moment is a milestone worth celebrating.

Understanding the Meaning of Easter in Our Classroom
As we celebrate Easter in our kindergarten classroom, we recognize that this special time can hold different meanings for different families.
For families who observe Easter as a religious celebration, it is a time to remember the story of Jesus and the message of love, sacrifice, and hope. It marks a joyful moment of new life and reminds them that light and goodness can overcome difficult times. Many families may attend church, pray together, and reflect on these important values.
For others, it is a time to gather with family, enjoy traditions, and welcome the arrival of spring. In our class, we embrace these diverse perspectives by focusing on shared values like kindness, renewal, and togetherness.
Through stories, conversations, and activities, students are learning to appreciate and respect each other’s traditions. This helps us build a caring and inclusive classroom where everyone feels seen and valued.

We had a wonderful time celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in our Kindergarten classroom! This special day honours Saint Patrick, who is remembered for bringing Christianity to Ireland.
We learned that the colour green is important because it represents Ireland, also known as the “Emerald Isle,” and the green shamrock that Saint Patrick used as a symbol.
Students enjoyed fun activities, exploring the colour green, and sharing in the excitement of the day.
For Valentine’s Day, our kindergarten classroom was filled with love, laughter, and creativity.
Our students created beautiful heart-shaped art pieces to celebrate the love they have for their families. As they worked, they eagerly shared stories about their moms, dads, siblings, grandparents, and even special pets. It was such a joy to hear them describe what makes their families special — from bedtime hugs to fun in the park and everything in between.
Each heart was uniquely designed to represent their special family. Through this activity, our students were not only exploring perception and use of space and artistic expression, but also reflecting on gratitude, belonging, and the importance of family.
We are so proud of the love our kindergarteners carry in their hearts. Their artwork is a beautiful reminder that even the smallest hands can express the biggest love.
This month in Kindergarten, we are excited to celebrate Chinese Heritage Month! It is a special time to learn about the rich history, beautiful traditions, and vibrant culture of Chinese communities in Canada and around the world.
Our students learned that fireworks are an important part of Lunar New Year celebrations, symbolizing joy and new beginnings. To connect with this tradition, we created our own colourful fireworks using paint! With bright bursts of red, gold, and many other vibrant colours, our classroom artwork sparkled with creativity and excitement.
We also learned a friendly greeting in Mandarin: “Nǐ hǎo!” (Hello!) and talked about how celebrations around the world can bring families and communities together.
It has been a joyful time of learning, creativity, and appreciation for the many cultures that make our community so special.

Celebrating Diwali – The Festival of Lights! ✨
This week, our school had a wonderful time learning about Diwali, the Festival of Lights! A special thank you to one of our parents who visited and shared about the meaning and traditions of Diwali. Students from different grades enjoyed creating beautiful Diwali crafts, including decorating diyas and other festive items.
It was a joyful celebration of light, color, and togetherness as we learned how people around the world celebrate this special festival.

Welcome to Kindergarten!
We have had a busy and exciting start to our school year in Kindergarten. Both our JK and SK friends are learning and growing together every day!
On the first day of school, we explored our new classroom, made new friends, and even mixed paints to discover brand new colours. Our activity was inspired by the book Curious George's First Day of School.
Students also practiced tracing their names — soon they'll be writing them all on their own!"
Dot Day
We celebrated Dot Day and created our own special dots to show our ideas and creativity. Everyone’s dot was unique—just like us!
Terry Fox Run
We joined the school in the Terry Fox Run. The children showed energy and joy as we learned about Terry’s courage and why he is remembered.
Orange Shirt Day
On Orange Shirt Day, we wore our orange shirts to show that Every Child Matters. We talked about being kind and caring to everyone. We also learnt about the 7 Grandfather Teachings of the Indigenous peoples. We also learnt about the seven grandfather teachings of the Anishinaabe peoples. These are guiding principles for living a good life, including Wisdom, Love, Respect, Bravery, Honesty, Humility and Truth. These principles emphasize treating others with kindness and making good choices. .
Fun Day
We also had a special Fun Day sponsored by the Wynford Group. The children enjoyed face painting, big slides, and lots of laughter!
Character Trait
In September, we learned about the TDSB character trait: Respect. We practiced respect by listening to each other, taking care of our classroom, and using kind words.
We are excited for all the learning and fun that October will bring.
On February 13, we had our "100th Day in School" celebration. Students worked really hard to complete a number of tasks around the theme of 100. They were given the task to create a display using 100 items. These were awesome!
100 Days Activities
100 Tiny Fingers
We used different colour paints to stamp and display 100 tiny fingers! Great for counting by 5's. How cool!
100 Cups
Students stacked 100 cups to create their version of a playground. They worked as a team to get the job done!
Dabbed 100 Hearts
This activity was great for counting. Students dabbed their hearts and counted as many as they could. It also helped with one to one correspondence.
